Does Your Home Need Staging Before Selling?
By Alessandra Imanabadi · Nationwide Fine Homes
You are paying to help buyers understand and want the space.
That can still be a difficult check to write. The furniture leaves, but the impression it helps create can influence whether buyers see the home as somewhere they want to live.
This does not mean every room needs staging or every property needs the same budget.
One home may justify $15,000. Another may need $2,000 of carefully selected help. Sometimes removing furniture does more than adding it.
The recommendation should fit the home
An awkward room may need help showing its purpose. A generous room may need furniture that communicates its scale.
And a home you have enjoyed for years may need a transition toward the next owner. That is not a criticism of your taste or the life you have lived there.
Digital staging needs care too. If online images create an experience the property does not deliver, you may generate traffic followed by disappointment.
The goal is not more visitors alone. It is more buyers who can connect what they saw online with what they experience inside.
Your agent should explain the recommendation room by room and remain sensitive to your money.
Alessandra can help you distinguish what would genuinely improve the presentation from what would simply add expense. You can consider that guidance before making a commitment.
What the staging research tells us
In NAR’s 2025 survey, 83% of buyers’ agents said staging made it easier for buyers to picture a property as a future home. That is an agent survey finding, not a guaranteed increase in your selling price.
