Preparing Your Home for Sale on a Limited Budget

Begin by removing what prevents buyers from seeing the home clearly.

Before ordering a remodel, imagine you have already sold. What would you pack, store or move?

Reduce personal belongings and excess furniture. Clean thoroughly. Open up the rooms. Then assess what still needs attention.

Sometimes the home needs far less than it seemed to need when every surface was occupied.

Spend where the buyer will feel the difference

Buyers imagine their own lives in the home. They may appreciate your property but lack the money, time or energy to take on work immediately after purchasing.

Addressing the right issues can remove that resistance.

But a renovation budget should not be a list of everything that could be improved. It should distinguish between what affects the sale, what can be left alone and what needs investigation.

Nor should appearance conceal condition. Problems often surface in inspections, and a loss of confidence can become more expensive than the original repair.

Your agent should be sensitive to every part of your spending—not simply recommend more.

A preliminary walk-through should clarify the sequence and help you decide where your money belongs.

Alessandra would be pleased to understand your plans and offer that perspective. You can take the information away and decide whether, when and with whom to move forward.
