Buying a Bay Area Home in Six Months? Start Here

Start with the financing, then build the search around your actual life.

Meet with a solid mortgage broker or your bank. You should leave knowing more than what you qualify for today. Ask what you can accomplish over the next four to five months: improve your credit, reduce a particular debt, organize documentation or structure your down payment differently.

You want to understand three things: what is comfortable, what is pushing the limit and what might require an underwriting exception.

The person behind the financing matters

Bank of America generally will not tell you that your circumstances would be better served by Wells Fargo. Both are large banks, but they do not necessarily specialize in the same loan markets.

Alessandra has developed a network of mortgage professionals because different purchases require different expertise. A $5 million purchase, a $500,000 purchase, a ten-unit investment property and a first-time buyer program do not call for the same specialist.

An experienced broker can compare multiple lenders. California DRE-licensed mortgage brokers also owe their borrowers a fiduciary duty, including putting the borrower’s economic interests ahead of their own. That is a responsibility—not a guarantee that every broker offers the best loan. California DRE.

Agree on what the home needs to accomplish

Everyone likes the idea of a guest room. But if relatives visit once a year, is that room important enough to give up the neighborhood you really want?

Have an honest conversation with your partner. One person may want an investment opportunity; the other may want a beautiful home that finally feels like an achievement. Discovering that difference early can prevent months of rejecting properties without understanding why.

Then visit homes. We regularly hear, “These five look perfect,” only to find that none feels right in person. The first outing is often educational. A thoughtful conversation afterward should make the second more focused and the third much closer.

Your agent should connect the people, the financing and the property—not simply send listings.

You are welcome to begin with Alessandra while your plans are still taking shape. That first conversation is an opportunity to ask questions, experience her approach and decide whether it feels right for you.
